Bumpy bends and volcanic fun

Posted by

This tour suggestion takes you to the Hessian regions of Knüllgebirge and , which can call itself Europe’s largest extinct volcano.

We start in Rauschenberg, where the well-known accessories manufacturer SW-Motech has its headquarters. Once a year, the “Open House” takes place here (2019: June 15/16, 2019). From a stunt show and guided test rides with bikes from various manufacturers to interesting presentations and live music on stage, there is a varied program that attracts many bikers to the company premises.

Tour start in the direction of Homberg/Efze

But now it’s time to ride. Frankenberg, Homberg/Efze, Alsfeld, Schotten and Laubach are all charming old towns close to the tour, with their beautiful half-timbered houses and restaurants providing the perfect caffeine and calorie refills.

But first things first. Just a few kilometers after the start of the tour, you could turn towards Frankenberg, with its ten-towered town hall and Café Nostalgie. However, if you’re in the rhythm of enjoying the bends, you can continue to Homberg/Efze, where you can stroll across the market square and through the half-timbered alleyways.

Knüllgebirge a real insider tip

A real insider tip is the Knüllgebirge, which surprises with fabulous road twists and turns. Romantic Alsfeld is certainly not a real insider tip, but it could almost be declared a must-visit. The historic town hall, an ingenious half-timbered ensemble and gastronomic delicacies such as the “Kartoffelsack” and “Omas Café-Stubb” invite you to tie up your bikes.

Ride on the Schottenring

Fancy a lap of the legendary Schottenring? Before you drive into the small town of Schotten, there is a great opportunity to do so. In the 1950s, the Schottenring was one of THE attractions for racing fans from all over Europe. Racing on public roads was banned after various horror crashes in 1956, which also meant the end of the Schottenring. Today, the former feeling is revived every year on the 3rd weekend in August. At the “Schottenring Classic Grand-Prix“, regularity races are held on a 3-kilometre city circuit, attracting thousands of classic racing enthusiasts to the volcanic city of Schotten.

The notorious B 276 winds its way past the Falltorhaus biker meeting place towards Laubach and reaches Laubach after a veritable orgy of bends. It was here that design legend Friedel Münch cut the ribbon to open the “MSD – Motorcycle Road Germany” in 2004.

Between Marburg and Stadtallendorf, the tour takes you back to the starting point in Rauschenberg in a relaxed and fun way.
