Calculations made without the Tyrolean (biker) innkeeper

For many years, motorcycle-friendly hotels and dedicated tourism professionals have been providing top service for motorcycle guests in . This season, however, they have not only had to contend with the coronavirus situation, but have also faced major obstacles from various sides. Fortunately, they didn’t bury their heads in the sand and clearly showed that motorcyclists are welcome guests and are of course still very welcome. Klaus’ blog post takes a look behind the scenes and also presents an exciting route in the region around the “new” High Bike Test Center.

Meeting point TirolWest

In mid-July, I met up with 4 committed people from a wide variety of motorcycle sectors at the new location of the High Bike Testcenter in Zams. Bikerwirt Willi from Motorradhotel Jägerhof in Zams, Daniel from Tourismusverband TirolWest, Tommy from High Bike Testcenter, Herbert from MoHo Motorrad Hotels and I quickly agreed that the current closures of 2 passes and 3 valleys in Tyrol for motorcycles, with a stationary noise level of over 95 dB, will hardly have the desired effect and are extremely questionable from a legal point of view. The last word has certainly not yet been spoken here. The black-green administration is sure to face some legal headwinds, because it is not the stationary noise that causes the problem, but a small percentage of incorrigible people who bear the main responsibility for the clan liability of all.

Committed tourism

The TirolWest Tourism Association is well aware of this and has been targeting motorcyclists who want to enjoy the bends and hairpin bends in the Alps for many years, rather than coming to Tyrol to break volume and speed records. Events such as the Pleasure Tour Week, this year from 5.9.-12.9.2020, make this particularly clear. Then, for example, the self-driving hoteliers Willi from Jägerhof and Klaus from Hotel Enzian will be on tour with guests to dock at many an insider tip. In addition to the motorcycling fun, other specialties of the region are also presented. It starts with a chocolate tasting of the award-winning “Tiroler Edlen” and continues with a visit to the local Venet mountain by gondola.

High Bike Testcenter

Zams has also shown that it is prepared to invest in the motorcycle service when it comes to rental and test bikes. After the new tourism management in Ischgl decided to close the test center last December for reasons that are hard to understand, Zams enthusiastically took action. Tommy, who runs the Moto City West motorcycle shop in Landeck, had already done an excellent job in Ischgl and is now looking forward to a much shorter journey and the continuation of what is probably one of the most innovative motorcycle projects. Motorcycles from BMW, KTM, Kawasaki and Yamaha are currently available for all-day test rides.

Tour map with Kurviger-TOURCODES

MoHo man Herbert is also enthusiastic about the project, not least because of several MoHo hotel partners in the vicinity of the test center, who will be able to offer their guests another highlight in motorcycle service in the future. These MoHo hosts can then be found on the tour map currently being created (to be published in spring 2021), along with many other motorcycle-friendly accommodation providers in the vicinity of the test center.

The map, which is being created in cooperation with MOTORRADSTRASSEN, will of course be equipped with Kurviger TOURCODES. I would like to present one of these tours at this point so that you can start immediately if required. Don’t panic – this power lap can be ridden regardless of the registered stand noise.

Furkajoch and Silvretta

You start at the test center in the direction of Arlberg. The panoramic road to St. Anton is followed by the Arlberg, Flexen and Hochtannberg passes, which present many a beautiful hairpin bend and magnificent views. A coffee break is due at the latest at the top of the Furka Pass. There’s also a chance to talk petrol for free, as the summit is also a popular meeting point for bikers. From Rankweil to Bludenz, also unpacks its biker trumpets and calls for a repeat visit – even in the opposite direction. This also applies to the Silvretta High Alpine Road, which marks the end of this tour and leads up to over 2,000 meters. Wait, I almost forgot the route via Tobadill. But I don’t have to reveal everything here.

Other routes on the map show the touring highlights from the Stelvio Pass to the Zugspitze and the asphalt pistes from the to the Timmelsjoch.
