Explained: Meaning of the curves

Posted by

When planning a curvy route, you will have noticed that Kurviger offers you four different route options. You can choose between the fastest route, the fast and curvy route, the curvy route and the extra curvy route. Each option then prioritizes different road characteristics so that you can find the best route for you. We have already explained the definitions in our quick tip article on the various curves.

Today, however, we want to use an example route to show you how the various curves actually change the course of your route. To do this, we first need to define our starting point and our destination. In our example today, we are going from Offenburg to Reutlingen.

The fastest route

In our first example, we select the “fastest route” option. You can select the fastest route by clicking on the icon on the far left of the curves menu. Kurviger will then generate a route that will take you to your destination as quickly as possible. Freeways are also used for this. Our route from Offenburg to Reutlingen, for example, takes you via the A8 near Pforzheim and the A5 near Rastatt.

The fast and winding route

Now we want to change the route. Our aim is to have Kurviger generate a fast but also curvy route for our route from Offenburg to Reutlingen. To do this, we simply select the second icon from the left in the row of curviness options offered. This option mainly takes you along highways and expressways, but curvy routes are also used as long as they do not involve a major detour. You can see this very clearly in our example. The route no longer takes you via the highways near Pforzheim and Rastatt, but crosses the highways.

The winding route

Thirdly, let’s take a look at the “curved route” option. You can select this option by clicking on the third icon in the menu row of curves. With the fast and curvy route, major detours should be completely avoided. The curvy route, on the other hand, tries to find the perfect balance between fun and detours. The route should take you over beautiful mountain passes and along picturesque, winding roads. Of course, this is also reflected in the duration and kilometers.

The extra curvy route

Finally, let’s take a look at the extra curvy route. You can select this option by clicking on the fourth icon in the menu row of curves. The extra curvy route favors even more curvy roads and avoids cities even more than the curvy route. It is possible that you will find small country roads with little traffic on this route, but you will also have to take longer detours. Of course, you can also see this increase in our route example. The route from Offenburg to Reutlingen is even more winding and therefore the kilometers and travel time also increase.

  • 3 hours and 9 minutes travel time

Display all curves simultaneously

With Kurviger Tourer, you also have the option of displaying all three curvy routes at the same time. This is a very useful feature, especially when planning longer routes, to compare the different curves directly with each other and find the curve that suits you best.
