Today’s motorcycle tour takes us through the Welzheim Forest and the Löwenstein Mountains, also known as the Swabian Forest. Our destination is the beer garden at Stettenfels Castle, where we will make a short stop. Both areas are characterized by a plethora of small side roads and low traffic volumes. The Welzheim Forest is known for its lakes, forests and mills. The Welzheim Forest is therefore also ideal for summer tours in hot temperatures.
The tour starts at a popular biker meeting point in the greater Stuttgart area – the Bikertreff am Ebnisee. At the weekend, when the weather is good, many bikers from the Stuttgart area gather here. Here you can talk petrol and have the opportunity to inspect many motorcycles. The tour can also be easily started from Welzheim, Schorndorf or Lorch.
Distance: 120 km
Travel time: 2-3 h (a large part are extremely small roads)
Link: kurv.gr/8Un8S
Please note: Some of the small roads are closed to motor vehicles on Sundays/holidays. We recommend this tour during the week.
At the beginning of the tour, we briefly follow the Idyllic Road, but after a short time we leave the main route and head towards Murrhardt on the smallest of roads. Just before Murrhardt at waypoint 2 is the Hörschbach waterfall, which is only a few meters off the road and is worth the short detour for the adventurous. There is also a particularly steep section of road near the waterfall with a gradient of 18%, something you don’t see every day.

If you are hungry or want to take a break, you should stop off in Murrhardt. There is a nice ice cream parlor in Murrhardt, for example, but also a petrol station. For the next 50 km or hour, there is not much except small roads and fantastic bends. This is where the real fun begins.
We wind our way along the most beautiful little roads towards Wüstenrot. We know Wüstenrot from the relevant building society advertising. There is even a building society museum in Wüstenrot with information on the “building society movement”. We leave the museum on the left and look forward to one of the most beautiful roads on the tour, the Steige to Spiegelberg. Perfect road surface, relatively tight but clear bends and hairpin bends. We liked the road so much that we threw our previous tour planning overboard and spontaneously took this road again at our next stop on the way back. But be careful, the road is quite narrow and you will occasionally see an oncoming car.
Stopover at Stettenfels Castle
Now the intermediate destination of the journey is getting closer and closer, Stettenfels Castle. The castle is already quite close to Heilbronn, so the last few kilometers are not a pleasure, especially after we have mainly been driving around on almost deserted roads. You can park your car right next to the castle and its beer garden. But the view makes up for the last few kilometers.

After a non-alcoholic wheat beer, we are sufficiently fortified for the way back. As already mentioned, we liked the road before Spiegelberg so much that we cycle a good part of the way back the same way. Theoretically, however, we could also return via the Löwensteiner Platte, as we had initially planned. The Löwensteiner Platte is a well-known biker meeting point in the area and, like the biker meeting point at Ebnisee, is very popular at the weekend. Bikers from the Heilbronn area meet here and many people from Stuttgart also ride the beautiful routes to the “Platte”.
The way back takes us west of Murrhardt through Sulzbach. From Sulzbach, the route continues along the smallest roads in the direction of Ebnisee. If you keep your eyes open, you will discover one or two mills on the tour.
