Posted by

A Kurviger Community Weekend took place in the for the second time. As in the previous year, the meeting was organized by forum moderator Viola – this time under the motto “Everything that rolls”. A fitting description for a weekend full of movement, beautiful roads and good company.

Arrival and kick-off

On Thursday afternoon, all the participants gradually arrive from all corners of (not only) . A pleasant atmosphere quickly develops over a small welcome drink and dinner together at the inn. The ideal start to a weekend together on two wheels.

Arrival and kick-off

Friday: Sun, curves and flexibility

Friday starts with bright sunshine – perfect motorcycling weather. Nine motorcycles set off together through the varied landscape of the Rhön. The very first stop shows that different riding styles are preferred within the group. We then split into two groups without any complications – a practical step that allows everyone involved to ride in a more relaxed manner.

Driving fun on the track and a visit to the museum

The first item on the day’s program is the Meiningen steam locomotive works. Expectations are high – unfortunately the reality is somewhat less than expected. Thanks to the technology presented in detail, it was at least interesting for steam locomotive fans.

The roads, on the other hand, are varied and winding throughout. Thanks to careful planning, there are no unexpected roadworks on the route. A stop at the Volle Rose show mine is planned for the originally planned lunch break – but it is unexpectedly closed. Without further ado, the group makes way for a nearby ice cream parlor – a welcome alternative.

Another culinary stop is made at the bratwurst stand at the Scheftelsbrunnen fountain – where you can not only enjoy an excellent grilled bratwurst, but also a pinch of Ostalgie.

Back at the hotel, the Kurviger Meet&Greet is still on the program and so the day ends comfortably after dinner with conversations in the common room.

Saturday: Technology and nature

Saturday starts on a more subdued note in terms of the weather – mostly cloudy and gray. After the start at 9 am, the route first leads to the Trusetal waterfall. The short ascent over steep and narrow steps offers a beautiful view and an impressive experience of nature.

Afterwards, technology fans will get their money’s worth: An extensive collection of historic vehicles from East and West – from the pre-war period to the post-reunification era – awaits at the AWE Eisenach automobile museum. The exhibition impresses with its variety and excellent presentation. The external appearance – an old industrial site with red brick buildings – is also photographically appealing. Above all, the abandoned counterpart next to it has a special charm.

We continue to the geographical center of Germany.

In the afternoon, an extended break is taken at the harbor restaurant Zur Schlagd on the Werra.

On the way back to the hotel, the route leaves nothing to be desired despite the damp roads. Shortly before the finish, there is one more special feature: the so-called “glitter road”, whose asphalt contains glass particles that sparkle in the sunshine. Even if the weather doesn’t allow the glitter effect on this day, the curved road is still a real highlight.

Conclusion

Three days on the road on small roads, with exciting stops and lots of great moments – the second Kurviger Community Weekend in the Rhön was once again a complete success. The atmosphere was consistently positive, the weather was mostly on our side and the conclusion: far too short, but simply great.

We are already looking forward to the next time!
