Austria is known for its rugged Alpine terrain, idyllic mountain villages and countless Alpine passes. With over 300 passes, saddles, high valleys and watersheds, Austria is a true Eldorado for motorcyclists.
In Salzburger Land, Tyrol, Carinthia and also in Vorarlberg, more than 20 passes with a pass height of over 2000m invite you to enjoy winding motorcycle tours.
The Ötztal Glacier Road on the Rettenbach Glacier in North Tyrol is the highest paved road in the Alps with an altitude of up to 2803 m above sea level.
Eastern Tyrol, Styria, Lower Austria and Burgenland offer plenty of other attractive destinations for motorized two-wheelers.
The Großglockner High Alpine Road is a highlight for motorcyclists. It stretches over 48 kilometers through the Hohe Tauern National Park and offers breathtaking views of Austria’s highest mountain, the Großglockner. Its sharp bends and panoramic views attract motorcyclists from all over the world.
Outside the Central Alps, the most scenic section of the entire Danube leads via Linz, Melk Abbey, the Wachau and St. Pölten to Vienna and on to Hungary. In Burgenland, Lake Neusiedl and its surrounding attractions provide lasting experiences.
Due to the eventful history of the former empire, each region of Austria has its own character to discover.
For history buffs, Austria’s connection to motorcycles is remarkable. The country was home to Puch, a renowned motorcycle manufacturer founded in Graz in 1899. Puch played a significant role in the development of the motorcycle in Europe, producing models that are now considered classics. Motorcycle museums, such as the Johann Puch Museum in Graz, offer exciting insights into Austria’s two-wheeled heritage.
