Germany is considered the birthplace of the motorcycle. In 1885, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach constructed the first motorcycle with a petrol engine, which was then called the Reitwagen. Given this history, it is not surprising that Germany has some first-class motorcycle regions to offer. Germany’s most beautiful motorcycle regions include the Black Forest, the Allgäu, the Harz Mountains, Saxon Switzerland, the Eifel, the Odenwald and many other regions. A beautiful tour through Germany is the Motorradstraße Deutschland.
The German low mountain ranges offer many hidden highlights. These can be found with the right tool (Kurviger) or local knowledge.
Germany is well known for its long tradition in motorcycle production and racing. The country has produced some of the most well-known motorcycle brands, including BMW, as well as the legendary Zündapp and Horex brands. These brands have played a crucial role in the development of the motorcycle industry, contributing to technological advances and groundbreaking designs.
One particularly important German contribution to the motorcycle world is the development of the world-famous BMW Motorrad division. BMW Motorrad is known for producing both high-performance touring machines and highly-engineered sports motorcycles. It has a worldwide reputation for quality and precision engineering.
Germany is also home to famous racing events such as the Nürburgring, a historic race track that has hosted numerous motorcycle races. This track is legendary not only because of its challenging terrain, but also because it is considered one of the most challenging race tracks in the world. Motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world gather here for the German MotoGP, an event that unites fans of motorcycle sports in a celebration of speed and engineering.
Another highlight is the Hockenheimring, another iconic track that is home to numerous motorsport events, including motorcycle racing championships. There are also a number of motorcycle museums in Germany, such as the German Motorcycle Museum in Stuttgart, where visitors can discover the rich history of German motorcycle manufacturing through everything from vintage machines to modern masterpieces.
