Bella Itallia, the motorcyclist’s heart beats faster, because Italy offers everything a motorcyclist could wish for. The Silfser Joch is considered by many to be the motorcycling highlight of the Alps. But Italy has much more to offer, such as the countless small mountain roads in Trentino or hidden former military roads.
The Italian police are notorious among motorcyclists, so it is advisable to observe the traffic rules. In the worst-case scenario, the Italian authorities can confiscate your motorcycle for up to 90 days.
In central and southern Italy, the roads are less crowded, which makes for relaxed rides, especially around Tuscany and Umbria. Here, motorcyclists can ride through picturesque villages and historic towns. The hilly landscape and Mediterranean climate make these regions particularly attractive for long rides.
The southernmost region, Sicily, also has a lot to offer and is ideal for a winter escape. The roads lead through historic sites such as ancient Syracuse or Mount Etna, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The coastal roads along the Amalfi Coast are also popular with motorcyclists as they offer an unparalleled riding experience while reflecting the beauty of the Mediterranean coastal landscape.
Motorcycle manufacturers such as Ducati, Moto Guzzi and Aprilia have their origins in Italy and are closely linked to the country’s history. These brands are synonymous with innovation and craftsmanship in motorcycle construction and have shaped the Italian heritage in motorsport. If you have the opportunity, you should visit the Ducati Museum in Bologna or the Moto Guzzi Museum in Mandello del Lario to learn more about the development of Italian motorcycle technology.
