In the Rothaargebirge, which lies exactly on the borderline between Hesse in the south and North Rhine-Westphalia in the north, you can find these typical wonderfully Kurviger routes that lead upwards through light-flooded forests up to over 800m. Beautiful viewpoints, sights and towns such as Bad Berleburg in the west and the Edersee lake in the east will make you want to put your bike on the side stand again and again.
Historically, the Rothaargebirge is also interesting for motorcycle enthusiasts. In 1951, the first hill climb took place here at the Great Müngsten Bridge. Such races used to attract riders from all over Germany and contributed to the region’s popularity among two-wheelers.
A highlight for motorcyclists is the Kahlen Asten, one of the highest peaks in the region. The route to it leads along tight bends and offers riding fun with panoramic views. There are numerous inns in the area that cater specifically to motorcyclists, including secure parking and tools for minor repairs.
For history buffs, the Rothaarsteig is worth a mention. Although it is a hiking trail, many motorcycle routes cross it. In some places, you can discover relics of mining history that point to the economic importance of the region.
There are also regular motorcycle meetings and touring events, especially in the summer months. These events offer a platform for exchange and allow you to get to know the region as a community.
