Ticino is the only canton in Switzerland that is predominantly located south of the main Alpine ridge. For motorcyclists, the attraction of this region lies not only in the four major passes with an altitude of over 2000 m that cross this main ridge, but also in the fact that the weather divide is often located here. If the weather is bad north of the Alps, sunshine often beckons in Ticino.
Many of the typical motorcycle routes to the northern Italian lakes such as Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano or Lake Como lead along spectacular scenic roads to Ticino, which already has a Mediterranean climate. The two main routes for crossing the Alps, the San Bernardino and the St. Gotthard, also end here. But it is not just transit routes that the canton has to offer. With 15 attractive mountain roads and passes, including the Nufenen, Switzerland’s second-highest pass, and its incomparable landscape, Ticino has been captivating the world’s rich and famous for centuries.
