On June 15, 2019, the “Hessen Motorcycle Route” was officially opened as part of the SW-Motech OPEN HOUSE in Rauschenberg in central Hesse. This marked the start of a 1,800-kilometre-long winding and cultural route through the middle of Germany, which alone links more than ten wonderful touring regions and makes a one-week motorcycle vacation an unforgettable touring experience. But even when ridden in individual sections and with an extra day or two in the selected region, the motorcycling state of Hesse is one of the most diverse motorcycling destinations in Germany.

The time was ripe
The “Hessen Motorcycle Route” closes a circle for me that began started in the 90s with the “Motorcycle Tour Map Hesse”. in the 90s. Having lived near Frankfurt since childhood, I had my first motorcycle, a Yamaha SR 500, I had experienced the Hessian Hessian motorcycle country extensively with my first motorcycle, a Yamaha SR 500, and then new paper product under the label “Good Vibrations”. Vibrations” tour maps onto the market. There were no sat navs yet and tours marked on a classic map were something very special. something very special.
With the “Hessen Motorcycle Route”, we have now launched a project with my MOTORCYCLE ROADS team and the MOTORCYCLE ROADS editorial team that is intended not least to appeal to tourers who are prepared to change their accommodation every day and pack as much variety as possible into their motorcycle trip.

What awaits the Hessentourer?
In addition to an almost endless number of fantastic low mountain routes, ranging from romantic forest roads without a central reservation to federal highways suitable for motorcycles, the focus is on relevant motorcycle stops such as bikers’ meetings and technology museums, Hessen culture and, of course, motorcycle people, such as the hosts in the biker-friendly hotels, who like to sit on their motorcycles themselves and know what they are talking about.

Hesse Vibrations
The “Hessen Motorcycle Route” is a circular tour, i.e. you can start at any point. For reasons of simplicity, we have editorially divided the route into 3 sections and present these in detail on the project website. We have briefly summarized the contents below. When you call up the respective Kurviger routes, you will find the tips, meeting points and accommodation mentioned on the tour.

The north of Hesse
In section 1, the Ederbergland, the Edersee region, the Sauerland and the north of Hesse will be put under the motorcycle tires. The biker village of Dodenau, the Zündstoff on the Edersee and the Fährhaus on the Diemelsee are the meeting points for the petrol talk. The Curioseum in Willingen-Usseln is a quaint exhibition that invites you to make a stopover. With his Hotel Sassor, biker host Axel is one of the best-known motorcycle hosts in the region and always has an easy-going saying.

Rhön, Spessart and Odenwald
In section 2, the Rhön, the Spessart and the Odenwald provide really great road material for bikes. Hesse’s highest mountain, the 950-metre-high Wasserkuppe, is just as much a part of the biker meeting point as the parking lot at the Marbach reservoir near Erbach in the Odenwald. Dedicated biker hosts such as Dani and Kai from the Bikerhotel Rhön and the Odenwald racing bike drivers Isabella and Stefan from the Gasthof-Hotel “Zum Lärmfeuer” continue to shine with vibrant information and many an insider tip. Around the Hesse metropolis of Frankfurt, the culinary offerings in the “Äpplwoi – Handkäs mit Musik – Grie Soß” gastronomic triad are particularly extensive. So, as soon as the bike is at rest, the Schoppe can be tasted.

Between Father Rhine and Schottenring
Section 3 finally leads back to the starting point of the tour via the Rheingau, the Taunus and the Vogelsberg. After a short section through Rheinhessen (officially part of Rhineland-Palatinate, but as an alternative to a torturous drive between Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, we simply annexed it), the motorcycling fun continues in Hesse after the ferry ride across the Rhine to Rüdesheim. And how – the Rheingau is a motorcyclist’s dream with its romantic routes that lead to Hessen’s highest and most famous biker meeting point, the Großer Feldberg.
Around the Treff, people don’t treat us bikers quite so romantically and try to justify the behavior of a few black sheep by punishing the entire motorcycle community. The Vogelsberg is much more relaxed and even has its own motorcycle tourism association to provide an appealing biker service. Europe’s largest extinct volcano provides a worthy conclusion to the “Hessen Motorcycle Route”, because with the historic Schottenring, the Hoherodskopf bikers’ meeting point and friendly hosts, it delivers exactly what motorcycle vacationers want.

What’s next?
We are currently working we are constantly working on editorial changes to the “Motorradstraße Hessen” in order to expand the existing photo and text material and the stops, as we have done with Frankenberg, for example. Frankenberg Frankenberg in the Ederbergland, for example already realized.
In 2020 we will start with a large-scale video realization, for which we are of course are still looking for tourism partners who are also interested in attractive motorcycle material for their guests. One of the aims of our project is to ensure that, at least in Hesse, there is a comprehensive tourist offer for motorcyclists that is as self-evident is as self-evident as one for cyclists and hikers.
We would also like to see a few more hotels that really really do something for motorcyclists. Which brings us back to our biker hosts Axel and Kai who, with their accommodation establishments, show us what motorcycle service and whom we would like to take this opportunity to thank once again for their cooperation in the photo production for their cooperation in the photo production at the start of the “Hessen Motorcycle Route”.
Finally, we invite you to visit the motorcycle state of Hesse and enjoy our motorcycle route. And if we meet somewhere, in Hesse it will be: “Ei gude wie?”
