Motorradtouren Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is the third largest region in France. Of particular interest to motorcyclists are the areas east of the Rhone to the Swiss and Italian borders, which are also known as the Dauphiné Alps. Countless motorcycle classics of the French Alps have their starting point here. The most famous is probably the Route des Grandes Alpes, which starts in Thonon-les-Bains on Lake Geneva and, after half a dozen spectacular passes, enters the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region on the Col du Galibier at an altitude of 2642m. The highest mountain in the Alps, Mont Blanc at 4810m, is also located here, as are countless other truly magnificent roads, which are often carved out of the rock in an overhanging manner as so-called balcony roads.

A few more statistics: the High Dauphiné offers 147 motorcycle destinations. Two thirds of these are pass roads, over 30 of which climb more than 2000 meters in altitude – pure adrenaline guaranteed. The Ardèche department is located on the western side of the region. The panoramic road around the gorges of the Ardèche attracts motorcycle enthusiasts from all over Europe every year. For enduro fans in particular, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region offers more or less well-maintained gravel roads off the beaten track. If you include the bad habit of French road builders to spread huge amounts of chippings everywhere to protect the fresh tar asphalt, then practically every side road is included.
